EDGE PAINTING
Edge painting has a rich history—for centuries, master bookbinders gilded the edges of books with gold, to show a richness. Today, we hand-paint the outside edges of our cards to highlight an existing color in your letterpress invitations or to introduce an entirely new color. Think subdued invitation with neon edging, or black letterpress with classic gold edging. Edge in any letterpress ink color we offer, plus metallic gold, metallic silver, and metallic copper. Custom colors are also available for an additional cost. We are unable to edge paint folded pieces, die cut pieces, or coasters.

FOIL EDGING
Foil edging gives a wonderfully smooth, radiant, shiny, luscious, reflective, awe-inspiring (should we go on?) surface to the edges of important pieces in your wedding suite. You can choose your foil edging from any of our foil stamping colors, except Black Shine, White Matte, or Pink Pearl Shine. We can foil edge anything except folded pieces, die cut pieces, and coasters.

Beveling puts a 45-degree angle on the edge of your cards. Beveling is only available on cards that are 2-ply or thicker. You can combine with Edge Painting and Foil Edging, incorporating any of our letterpress inks or our foil edging colors. Beveled cards can also have round corners, provided they don’t also have foil edging.

Design tips for edge painting & foil edging
- The difference between edge painting and foil edging. We do offer edge painting in metallic gold, metallic silver, and metallic copper. This edge painting has a little shimmer to it, but it’s still somewhat subdued and rather matte. If you are looking for something more dramatic, with a shiny metallic gleam to it, consider foil edging.
- Edge painting is most visible in medium to dark colors. You’ll see your edge painting better on our thicker 2-ply and 3-ply papers versus our 1-ply paper.
- Adding an edge is a great way to introduce a new color: add a 2nd (or 3rd! or 4th!) color to your invitation set by including a new hue on the edges of your invitations and other cards.
