We have some amazing in-house designers here at Bella Figura who know all about this year’s hottest wedding trends! We asked a few of our designers to share their favorite trends for 2012 weddings and beyond, and they dished on everything from dresses to wedding colors – take a look at the trends our designers are loving!
Sarah Walroth: Couples are making their invitations unique to them, and incorporating special accents that make their invitations pop! Bold color combinations – like geranium + mediterranean or hot pink + silver shine foil; geometric patterns – chevron, stripes, etc.; oversized text, and foil – are all popular options that couples are using to make their design stand out. I also love the hand made details we’ve been seeing in weddings lately. Customized soda bottle labels, chalkboard menus & seating guides, and cards directing guests to different stations that match the rest of the paper goods in the wedding are great personal touches that really make the wedding unique to the couple. I’m happy to see more and more tea-length and knee-length bridesmaids’ dresses, too – they have a fun feel and are definitely practical for summer weddings. And for shoes, I’m thrilled that sparkly platform pumps are in style because they make perfect wedding shoes!
Lindsy Aragona: Coral colors are going to continue to be huge this year and beyond – corals work so well with both warm or cool neutrals like sand or pewter. And the multiple shades of coral, pales to brights, can fit any wedding theme – formal to destination! I love vintage, quirky and rustic looks – and outdoor weddings with personal touches are my favorite. Pale colors, rustic accents, nature and romance are my inspiration!
Racheal Decker: I’m predicting that personalized elements will continue to be huge! (monograms, customized & creative wording, pocketfolds, and more). Eye catching colors – from soft and subtle blushes to nautical blues, to anything bold and saturated (hello neons!!) are also popular for weddings right now and will continue to be well through next year. Couples are also choosing themes — everything from fairytales to dreamy destinations and everything in between. Themes are everywhere, and like it or not you probably have one! I’m also loving the rustic weddings we’ve been seeing lately — sweet earth tones with handmade accents simply “woo” your guests with the natural romance of your event.
Brenda Fox: I think we will continue to see lots of bold oranges & reds coming into play paired with muted, earthy tones. Lots of stripes and more thin, light typefaces. My favorite wedding trend right now is roof top weddings for sure! I imagine a warm summer night with unique, white lights in a chic city space or garden. I think it helps make for an intimate setting with your closest friends and family on your special day. I also really love a really rustic venue, which makes the bride look all the more beautiful (like the movie the Proposal with Sandra Bullock, when she got married in the old wooden church in Alaska!).
Metallic gold is showing up everywhere this year, from high-fashion to home decor and especially in weddings. Metallic gold is one of the most glamorous and elegant colors you can add to your wedding to make it an event to remember! We love this trend so much, we’ve incorporated it throughout our new 2012 wedding invitations. This dazzling metallic isn’t just for traditional or formal weddings — it also works perfectly to add a feel of romance to vintage inspired weddings, and an unexpected flare to modern and contemporary weddings. To add this sparkling shade to your invitations, you can mix letterpress and gold foil stamping, or go with all foil printing (think matte gold and shiny gold for a super-stunning effect!).

embellishment suggestions: foil edging: indigo shine

Edge painting and foil edging are centuries old, but here at Bella Figura we are keeping this timeless practice alive! We offer both edge painting and foil edging as embellishment options for our letterpress invitations. Want to customize your invitations by adding an edging but not sure which option to choose? We know that the process of choosing embellishments may seem a little overwhelming (especially since we’ve added a lot to our list of options for 2012), so today we’re here to tell you about the differences between edge painting and foil edging, and we’ll help you determine which embellishment will work best for you.
First here are a few thing to ask yourself:
1. Do you want a sleek, metallic shine or a reflective edge?
2. Are you using foil stamping in your suite?
3. Do you want to use an accent color outside of our letterpress inks?
If you answered yes to one or more of these questions, then foil edging may be the perfect choice!
We are completely in love with foil edging, and thrilled that we can offer this option! Shiny metallics will be really popular for weddings in 2012, so if you are looking for a trendy new way to enhance your invitations this may be the perfect fit for you. We have 12 dazzling new foil colors that are all stunning (ranging from more traditional silver, gold & copper colors to more modern teal, fuchsia & indigo). Foil edging leaves a shiny edge that we think is breathtaking. If you can’t fit foil stamped invitations into your budget but still want a special hint of shine, you can add foil edging!

Our letterpress design of the month for December is the trendy Ikaty design by Kamal, and it’s got us going crazy for everything ikat right now. We found these fun pieces online and just had to share — we guarantee you’ll be inspired!
1. A sweet raspberry Daphne ikat clutch | 2. The perfect ikat bridesmaid’s dress | 3. Pretty blue ikat dishes | 4. Totally turquoise ikat pillow | 5. Gorgeous red ikat cloth napkins | 6. A vibrant, multi-colored ikat scarf | 7. The prettiest ikat iPhone case | 8. A sophisticated ikat dinner plate | 9. A tropical Ikat cake
In our search for ikat inspiration, we also came across these incredible weddings on Style Me Pretty — our first fabulous find features the most amazing table runners, made with fabric ordered from Usbekistan! The second wedding had rich blue ikat pieces scattered throughout the reception — a gorgeous board for escort cards, comfy pillows for lounging and sophisticated table runners all added the perfect touch of pattern and color (and we love the way the blue fabric looks next to those vibrant orange flowers!).
Don’t forget – the Ikaty suite is on sale for 20% off through 12/31 (including invitations, thank you notes, programs, save the dates, menus, place cards, and more!)!
Thinking about your letterpress reception pieces? Think program covers! To get everyone swooning we’ve pulled together a collection of programs covers we’ve printed recently so you can see a variety of styles, colors and designs. Whether vintage or modern, colorful or classic black – let your feelings shine through your programs! You can include a sweet line of prose, a saying that pulls on your heartstrings, a scripture verse that has held true, or a design element that’s bold and beautiful. Whatever your style, feast your eyes on some of our Client Coordinator’s favs!
