What’s in store for 2012 wedding trends? If you’re planning your wedding in 2012, you’re in luck—it’s a great time to be in love.

For general bridal trends, we predict “glam” instead of kitsch. Vintage has been huge in past years, but we might be seeing less of it. Couples want their weddings to feel authentic, so if they are going for a vintage look, it will be less eclectic, more organized. We’ll see a move of reception locations back to inside spaces. Not necessarily ballrooms, but art galleries, old courthouses, loft spaces... so that you still get that unique vibe, but a more “finished” feel. Imagine lace gowns (French specifically), and bridesmaids in neutral colors or shades of white or grey. Flowers will be small and edited—quality over quantity. For wedding cakes, a move back to the traditional white cake and away from cupcakes. Think formal and elegant. Think royal wedding.

For wedding invitations, we’re imagining gold invitations are going to be huge, whether it’s gold envelopes, gold pocketfolds, gold foil edging, or gold foil stamping on the invitation. Metallics in general will be pretty darn popular in invitation suites (think mixing silver and gold; or two tone gold; or colored foils). Jewel toned wedding colors will increase in popularity; bright inks that pop and neon will be big; and get prepared for unexpected color combinations you wouldn’t normally think would go together (for example, spring green and mediterranean blue - wow!). If neon and bright colors make you a little nervous, consider adding a bright edge painting or splash of color to an otherwise neutral palette. We predict elaborate invitation sets will come back again. Imagine multi-colored patterned liners for envelopes and an ultra thick cotton paper (like our 2-ply cotton). Calligraphy will maintain its staying power as the ultimate finishing touch on an invitation set, or as a formal design element on the invitation pieces.
